Third Party Applications (*=parallel processing enabled!):

Almost all of the packages require changes to your Unix environment, so you need to see our hints page!

PC access to cronus.hipecc.wichita.edu:

  • We now require SSH (Secure SHell) clients. Go here for info on "free" client software. PUTTY and Cygwin/XFree86 are very popular. We also can sell you a copy of F-Secure SSH for use on campus for $5.50. Here is the manual. F-Secure SSH can be used to transfer files via drag and drop. We have a SSH site license from SSH Communications Security Corp. To download it, click here. It also has drag-and-drop. This version does not have the right-click-and-edit feature of F-Secure SSH.
  • Connect to cronus with X11 emulation software such as X-win32 or Exceed if a GUI is needed. This is called X Windows. Your PC is known as the X Server. cronus is known as the X Client. Xming is free but requires SSH such as PUTTY. Here are instructions for installing both.

UNIX access to cronus.hipecc.wichita.edu:

  • Connect to cronus with X11 emulation software . This is called X Windows. Your UNIX workstation is known as the X Server. cronus is known as the X Client.
  • We now have SSH (Secure SHell) and require using SSH clients to replace TELNET and FTP. Go here for info on "free" client software. We have shutdown TELNET and FTP access.
  • Note that SSH is needed in addition to X11 emulation software. Once SSH makes a connection, X11 is used for the graphical user interfaces.
